“We are thrilled to be working with such a pioneering and impactful charity.  The Action For Kids team are incredibly professional and dedicated to making our partnership a success.  We are really looking forward to developing it further and building on the success of our achievements to date.” Kate Hursthouse, CR Manager

In March 2015, prestigious international law firm Slaughter and May selected Action For Kids as a charity partner.

To start, we were given a very generous donation that meant immediately changing the lives of disabled children and young people from all over the UK who desperately needed vital mobility equipment.

The partnership developed relatively quickly into a very holistic one, with the Corporate Responsibility (CR) Manager and CR Committee taking the time to get to know the charity through a series of visits and meetings with AFK trustees, senior leaders, staff and our trainees.

Slaughter and May now provide core funding, specialist pro bono legal advice, plus employee fundraising and volunteering. They listen to our needs and the broader issues our client group face and work closely with us to solve problems.

On hearing the shocking statistic that only 6% of people with a learning disability have a paid job, Slaughter and May embarked on providing a number of high quality work placement opportunities for our trainees.

Supported work placements are crucial to develop a young person with learning disabilities' skills and confidence and nurture better understanding of personal strengths, improvement areas, likes, dislikes and career aspirations.

At the same time, having a diverse workforce builds awareness and understanding of disabilities amongst Slaughter and May’s employees.

Slaughter and May: “Offering 'real' work placements to Action For Kids’ trainees is an opportunity for us to make a real difference to the life of a young person and provides a tangible way to demonstrate and foster our approach to diversity and inclusion. The principles of equal opportunity and diversity are fundamental to our continuing success.”
