Disabled young people come to Action For Kids to take part in our Work Related Learning Programme where they do real work in our office and the community - such as processing our raffle and other essential office work. We focus on people’s ability, not their disabilities and aim to provide a positive, supportive environment in which young people can develop confidence and learn new skills.
Disabled young people are frequently denied access to, and participation in, the world of work. At Action For Kids we recognise how difficult it can be for young disabled people to gain access to meaningful employment opportunities. We also recognise that work related learning is not all about getting a job. In addition to developing and enhancing skills that are transferable to either employment, volunteering or taking an active role in the community, it is about giving young people a growing sense of independence and confidence.
At Action For Kids we focus on young people's abilities, providing them with a positive and supportive environment in which to develop their self-esteem.
Our services fall into four main strands:
- In-House Service
- Outreach Service
- Holiday Programme
- Towards Independence and Inclusion Project
We provide placements to young people from 17 London boroughs and Hertfordshire and offer a range of support services including chaperoned transport and one-to-one support for personal care as well as learning needs.
If you would like to benefit from any of our Work Related Learning Services which are based in Hornsey, north London, then please complete our application form.
