New set of wheels helps Derby boy
A 6 year old boy from Chaddesden has been granted a specially adapted trike after pub company Punch Taverns donated almost £1,200 through its Punch Community Spirit Project.
Oliver Reed has cerebral palsy and uses a wheelchair to get around, but it can sometimes prevent him from joining in on activities with his friends. His mother got in touch with national disability charity Action For Kids to help with funding, which in turn contacted The Punch Community Spirit Project.
"A huge thank you to both Action For Kids and Punch Taverns for providing us with this trike," said Oliver's mother, Carey Wilson. "It will not only offer Oliver the independence he needs to play with his sister and friends but it will also help build strength and coordination and teach him how to move his legs."
Lyn Prodger, responsible for Corporate Partnerships at Action For Kids, applied to Punch Taverns for the funding. She said: "We're always so grateful to businesses that give something back to the communities in which they operate. The trike will offer fantastic physical and emotional benefits to Oliver and we look forward to hearing about his development."
The Punch Community Spirit Project was launched in 2007 and donates to local charities, schools and organisations. Nigel Turpin, Punch's corporate affairs director commented: "Punch is committed to supporting local causes within a fifteen mile radius of its head office in Burton-upon-Trent. We are delighted to be able to support Oliver and are sure he will benefit hugely from the donation."

Be one of the first to buy the new Action For Kids mug
A couple of months ago a group of students on our work related learning programme set up a mini-enterprise group with the brief to design an item of merchandise to raise funds for Action For Kids. Their research led to the production of mugs with two different designs - Fish and Tree.
Great excitement this week as we took delivery of the new Action For Kids mug. Project manager Tanya, pictured here said "I am really pleased with how they turned out and I hope that people will buy them"
If you want to get your hands on these mugs they are available from our office for
£4 each (£5 inc p&p). Contact Tanya or Lyn on 020 8347 8111 or email partnerships@actionforkids.org to place an order or click on one of the mugs to download a poster for your workplace.
