Towards Independence and Inclusion

Through the Towards Independence Project we hope to teach disabled young people practical skills such as cooking, cleaning, grooming, budgeting and using public transport - essential skills for making the often difficult transition into independent living.   It does so by offering:

  • A resource base from which to receive support for such things as looking for a job or working to address areas of development.
  • Individual support for integrating into the community (e.g. accessing the local community, shopping or travelling independently).
  • The opportunity to further develop their confidence, independence and skills in the workplace.

If you would like to know more about Towards Independence please email us or call 020 8347 8111.

Peer Mentoring - a positive role model

We offer a limited number of peer mentoring opportunities to young adults with learning difficulties and/or disabilities. In addition to providing other young people with a positive role model and one to one support in their work tasks, peer mentoring also involves representing Action For Kids at promotional and public events (see Karen's story opposite).

*Peer mentoring opportunities are available to those over the age of 26
