Abby and Sonya's stories
Abby and Sonya, both 18, are students who took part in our Outreach service. Sonya has Mosaics Down Syndrome and Abby a visual impairment.
Abby's story
'I'm at college, doing animal care and gardening. We groom the animals, look after them, clean out their cages. Gardening is fun, learning about the different types of flowers. I don't know what I want to do after college. Something to do with music. Working with horses too; I go horse riding every Sunday!
AT AFK I do computer work, sorting out tickets for the raffle, putting newsletters in envelopes and photocopying. I like working with David - the boy with the blonde hair!'
Sonya's story
'I come to AFK on buses that take me to the new workplace. I go to college but Fridays I come to Action for Kids. I do stuffing, stuffing, stuffing! And stamping. Letters! I did PowerPoint too. They took pictures of me at the presentation - oh my God! It's good, good, good, amazing.
I have lots of family - my mum likes AFK, my dad and brother like AFK. I got a pink sari for Diwali, matching earrings and matching necklace. After Diwali, it's Christmas, Christmas party at Action For Kids. Then, 2007!
We asked Sonya about her disability: ‘ I don't know, I don't know, too hard for me! That's it, the end. Love from Sonya!'
