Personal success stories
Maleah
Three year old Maleah was born with a genetic disorder that causes her bones to break with no apparent cause. Since birth she has suffered nine breaks. Action For Kids bought a new wheelchair for Maleah which is especially designed for very young children and gives her independence.
‘As a mother, I want to say a special thank you. It was heartbreaking to see my little girl get left out of playing with her friends because she could not keep up. You have opened up a whole new world for her that would otherwise drift further and further away. From the bottom of my heart, I thank you.'

Troy
Troy is 24 and comes to Action For Kids twice a week as part of our Work Related Learning programme when he is not at college. He has written his CV and does office work such as processing the fundraising raffle. Troy also participates in our Towards Independence programme, learning domestic and other practical life skills such as cooking, handling money and using public transport.
"We washed our hands and put on aprons. We made pizza and fruit salad. At the end we all got our certificates and the cooking pack. I enjoyed the day".
Jordan
JJ's mum approached our Family Support Service for a powered wheelchair for JJ. Jordan is thrilled with his new chair. "It is much easier to use because I don't need to turn the wheels. I can use the trigger. It goes up so I can reach things that are high, and down into a Go Kart". Families needing practical advice or a sympathetic ear can ring our Family Support Service national helpline.
