Fay's story
Some of you may remember us writing to you some time ago about a young girl called Sue, who was in desperate need of a new chair. That girl was in fact young Fay from Surrey, whose name was changed to protect her identity. Now Fay is so delighted with her new chair, she wants everyone to know about it! We spoke to Fay's mum, Tania, a few days before the chair was to be delivered.
'A new chair, where she can be more comfortable, is exactly what she needs. Her present one gives her inadequate support and she has developed scoliosis. She is waiting for a hip operation too, and her old chair can't tilt backwards, so the more I have to move her, the more stress on my back too. The new chair will have a number of posture-adjusting functions that will enable Fay to be so much more independent. We can't wait!'
A week later, the chair was delivered to Fay at school. Tania rang us 'Fay is absolutely ecstatic! She loves the fact that she doesn't need to rely on anyone to push her, and that this chair raises up - it makes her taller than her older brother! There will be a lot of physical challenges in her future, but Fay is a very determined girl. She wants to live in her own flat - a real teenager! This chair will help to change her life'.
Fay was so happy she contacted us straight away
'Thanks to this chair, I can finally see over the canteen counter at school - I can at last see what I am getting for my dinner!'
