Lucy's story

Lucy is fourteen years old, has cerebral palsy and is a full time wheelchair user. Lucy's wheelchair was getting old and kept breaking down, every time her wheelchair went away to be repaired Lucy was without her independence.

Lucy's friend got a new wheelchair and when Lucy saw it she knew she had to have one for herself. So an assessment was carried out, Lucy's mum said, "as soon as she sat in the chair she was off and loved it".

The new powered wheelchair is much more reliable and suited to her postural needs. Lucy said "I would like to say a big thank you for my lovely new wheelchair, I really like it a lot. It's so comfortable I don't want to get out of it; it's great"

The wheelchair also has useful functions, such as a rise and tilt mechanism. "When I'm at school I can higher and tilt myself. I am going shopping with my friends up the city in my new wheelchair. I'm more independent now, I'm having such a good time in it, it really helps me so much".

"My new wheelchair is fantastic, and it is a lot better than my old one. I love the way that I can go up and down and be at eye level with my friends"
Ben, aged 12.
