Family support case study
Family Support Service - beyond just the provision of equipment!
"I want to tell other people in my situation that they don't need to be alone'
Pauline is 24 and has Spina Bifida. AFK provided her with a powered chair three years ago and has been covering the maintenence and repair costs ever since.
She told us 'I'm not just a girl in a wheelchair, I've now got six legs instead of two, four just happen to be metal'.
Since providing the chair Pauline has been in regular contact with Jo, Manager of the Family Support Service 'Not only has the Charity made sure the chair is always working, but they have been there when things get hard. Just hearing Jo's voice can make my day better'. Pauline's main hobby is creative writing. The chair enables her to take part in a writing workshop at her local higher education college. She is currently busy working on a number of projects, not least a sitcom!
Issues such as feelings of isolation, financial requirements, family problems and personal care needs are just some of the subjects being tackeld by the Family Support team on a daily basis.
If you would like to talk in confidence about any issues, please contact our Family Support team on 0845 300 0237 (local call rates) or email support@actionforkids.org.

Pauline catches up with Jo from our Family Support team for a coffee and a chat!
