Summer 2009 Appeal for Lois
Our summer appeal is raising funds to help 14 year old Lois, who recently found out she will always need to use a wheelchair. Lois has Cerebral Palsy, which severely restricts her mobility. She used to be able to get around with the aid of a walking frame, but as Lois got older her bones and muscles grew at different rates, making movement difficult and reducing her control of her legs.
For the past year and a half Lois had undergone a staggering ten operations which doctors hoped would give her back the use of her legs but unfortunately they were unsuccessful. Lois has to get around in the NHS manual wheelchair she has at the moment. Unfortunately, it is inadequate for the needs of a teenager like Lois and is severely restricting her independence. While Lois' brothers (pictured with her below) are happy to push her chair, it would mean the world to Lois to get about on her own.
Her mother, Penny, explained just how important it is that Lois gets her Storm 3 TT wheelchair as soon as possible: "With the new chair she could actually start to enjoy everyday things again, like shopping or spending time with her friends. After all she's been through it would mean the world to give her back some independence."
A Storm 3TT powered wheelchair will not only ensure Lois is supported in the correct position to minimise her pain, but will also maximise her independence at this crucial age. Please
send a gift today, so that we can get the wheelchair to Lois as quickly as possible.
As her mother Penny says, "A new wheelchair would be the next best thing to giving Lois another pair of legs".
