March 2007 Appeal
Seven-year-old twin sisters Abby and Sarah both suffer from a very rare condition called Bilateral Congenital Dislocation, which affects their hips and elbows. This condition means that their joints are weak and slip out of place easily. The girls can only manage to walk for about 50 metres before becoming exhausted and having to use a wheelchair to move around in. As the girls get older they are becoming more self-conscious of their condition and their total reliance on an adult to push them about in their wheelchairs is seriously affecting their self-esteem.
AFK is determined to raise the money to buy two ‘Spectra Blitz' specialised powered wheelchairs, ideal for indoor and outdoor use. In these, not only would the twins be far more comfortably supported but they would also be able to drive themselves around without having to wait for help or becoming physically exhausted or worse still, dislocating a joint.
At a cost of £8117.50 the chairs are financially out of reach for Abby and Sarah's parents but the difference they would make to the entire family is enormous.
It would be fantastic if you could help with a gift today. Please click here to go to our secure donation page where you can donate towards the cost of these wheelchairs
