January Appeal for Tracy
It will cost £8,980 to buy Tracy a Storm 3TT powered wheelchair with customised seating.
Tracy is a lifelong wheelchair user and she has used her current manual chair for over 17 years. Unfortunately the local NHS cannot help her and the chair is now uncomfortable and unwieldy. Most importantly, Tracy cannot move it around herself, leaving her completely reliant on other people to move her.
Tracy is very bright and she is studying art at her local college, where she has an assistant to help with her work and movement around the college buildings. However with the Storm 3TT powered wheelchair she will be able to get around both college and home unaided, bringing her real freedom for the first time in her life.
Tracy's parents have worked incredibly hard to make her life as comfortable as possible. A few years ago they organised fundraising events themselves to raise money for a crucial electronic ‘voicebox' attachment which Tracy needs to communicate. They have also had to make a lot of D.I.Y. fixes and improvements to Tracy's ancient wheelchair: it is now virtually held together with tape.
After being turned down by her local NHS and other organisations that were unable to support them,
Action For Kids has become, as mum Marian says, "Our family's last hope of a new wheelchair." We really want to give Tracy her independence. Please can you help us?
