Easter Appeal for Luke
Eighteen year old Luke is an incredibly active teenager; enjoying sport, music, watching football and even his studies. The fact that Luke has Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy may severely restrict his movement but he tries his hardest not to let it dampen his enthusiasm for life.
Luke is a full time wheelchair user and has had his current powered chair since he was twelve. Like many teenagers he loves sport and uses his chair for everything from basket ball to table tennis to athletics.
Luke attends a specialist disability college where he lives in term time. The opportunities at the college are excellent and as well as his academic studies, Luke is learning the skills necessary to move into employment and independent living when he graduates. He can borrow a wheelchair from time to time but desperately needs his own custom one to support him in the most comfortable position as his muscles can become tight and painful if he isn't.
We raised money for Luke back in 2004 for his first powered wheelchair which completely transformed his life. Before then he was heavily reliant on other people to push him around and help him. Unfortunately his chair has broken down and although covered on our Permanent Loan Scheme it is beyond financially viable repair. This often happens when very active young people use powered wheelchairs
Will you help us to provide him with a powered wheelchair to ensure he gains the most from college? To donate please ring 020 8374 8111, pop a cheque in the post or click here.
Luke prefers to be on the other side of the camera lens so here we are including a picture of James, a regular student at Action For Kids. Luke is hoping for a powered wheelchair similar to this.
