Back To School Appeal for William

Four year old William will soon be starting primary school. William lives with Spastic Quadriplegic Cerebral Palsy, an injury to his brain that means he has limited control of his arms and, particularly, his feet. At present, he makes do with an inadequate manual wheelchair, pushed for him by a carer. It is several sizes too big and dwarfs his body. Please donate today so that William will have a new wheelchair in time for his first day of school.

His physiotherapist has recommended a Quantum Jazzy 1107 powered wheelchair at a cost of £5,462 which will fit his needs. The chair would enable William to make his own decisions relating to his mobility and further aid his independence and quality of life. With this upgrade he'll be able to move more quickly and precisely, and race around the playground at lunchtime. We can't bear to think of William watching his classmates have fun from the edge of the playground - his only choice to watch or to shuffle on his bottom. We must provide him with the wheelchair he needs in time.

William's mum says, "A new chair to start school with would mean everything to William and our family. He'll be able to join in with everything the other kids do. It would do wonders for his self-esteem because he wouldn't have to rely on other people so much. What's more his brother and sister wouldn't feel like they have to baby-sit him. That's why I think the chair would mean three happier, more independent children. I just can't bear to think of how his education, and his happiness, would suffer if William doesn't get the chair before he starts school."

Please donate now and give William the best start to his future this autumn. With your help we can ensure that William enters this new, and so crucially important stage of his life, not with fear or trepidation, but with excitement, joy and independence.
