Actor Lynda Bellingham, who found fame in the 80's as the mum in the Oxo adverts and now presents ITV1 chat show Loose Woman, is appearing in an awareness-raising film for disability charity Action For Kids. She introduces the six-minute film, which follows families the charity has helped by supplying mobility equipment and family support services. "As a parent, you work towards achieving your children's full potential," says Bellingham. "Action For Kids does this for thousands of young people, helping to give them the confidence and independence to fulfil their roles in society." Young disabled people involved in the charity's Work Related Learning scheme, which develops skills that are transferable to employment, helped with the production. The film will appear on the charity's website later in the year.

Press Release - Mayor strikes a chord with local charity

Mayor of Haringey, Cllr Sheikh Thompson, has visited Hornsey-based charity, Action For Kids, to meet disabled young people on work experience placements.

The Mayor, accompanied by the Mayoress Kyoko Thompson, spent several hours chatting to youngsters taking part in Work Related Learning, a scheme that allows them to develop skills which are transferable to employment, volunteering or within the community. Action For Kids is the only charity in the UK to provide this type of work experience to young disabled people.

The Mayor treated those present to a verse from Irish Tenor John McCormack's best-selling song, Bless This House, which went down a storm.

The Mayor said: "I've really enjoyed meeting all of the children and staff involved in Action For Kids' Work Related Learning. Many of us don't realise that there are thousands of young people in the UK with physical disabilities and learning difficulties who struggle to get access to employment. These work experience placements not only provide better employment opportunities, but give children a growing sense of independence and confidence which is so important."

Founder of Action For Kids, Sally Bishop, added: "It was a real pleasure to have the company of the Mayor at Action For Kids. He's a keen supporter of our work and it's great that he was able to spend so much of his valuable time learning more about how we're focussing on abilities rather than disabilities through Work Related Learning."

Action For Kids also help young people find greater levels of independence and opportunity by providing mobility equipment, such as powered wheelchairs and trikes, and offering family support via a national helpline.

April 07: Sales calls from Action 4 Kids

We have received a number of complaints about an organisation called Action 4 Kids, which people are confusing with our charity. Action 4 Kids is not us and has nothing to do with Action For Kids.

Action 4 Kids is selling advertising space, and people are reporting aggressive phone calls to demand payment for space which they have supposedly previously agreed to purchase.

We do not do sell advertising space or pressure people into making payments – either over the phone or in person.

Because their name is so close to ours, people are confused, thinking they are associated with our charity. This is not only confusing and upsetting for the people they contact, but is potentially damaging to the perception and reputation of Action For Kids.

Please note that the Action 4 Kids is based in Manchester, whereas we are located in Hornsey, North London.

If you have any doubts about the legitimacy of any calls or correspondence you receive from Action For Kids call us on 020 8347 8111.

If you receive calls from Action 4 Kids that you are unhappy with you should contact Ofcom: tel 020 7981 3000 www.ofcom.org.uk, or Trading Standards www.consumercomplaints.org.uk, tel 0845 4040 506, making it clear that it is not Action For Kids the charity you are complaining about but an organisation with a similar sounding name.
