Jo Read “This means Jo is in charge of the department that helps students aged over 19. She helps them get a job and become more independent” Jo has worked with young disabled people for over 25 years. She has a wide spectrum of experience, drawn from a variety of different sectors. Initially Jo began working with young disabled people in the voluntary sector, she worked for 10 years within the Deaf community as a Sign Language Interpreter. Later she moved on to work in education, as a specialist careers advisor and prior to joining Action For Kids, as Learning Difficulties and Disabilities Manager, in Connexions. Academically Jo's background is in Psychology, Counselling and Guidance. She has set up and managed both projects and services for young people. Her commitment and focus has been on young disabled people’s welfare, rights and transition into adult life.
