Work related learning and training for disabled young people At Action For Kids we know how hard it can be for young disabled people to gain access to employment opportunities. We provide work related learning and office experience for young people with learning difficulties and/or physical disabilities
Wheelchairs and mobility equipment Action For Kids supplies sophisticated mobility aids which are not available on the NHS including customised wheelchairs, walkers, trikes and buggies - giving disabled children the freedom that others take for granted. Our maintenance and repair programme keeps expensive equipment in mint condition.
Work Related Learning Action For Kids offers a range of services which help disabled young people develop independence through outreach programmes in special and mainstream schools and a central training centre. Students come to our charity's head office to do real work in a real workplace.
Towards independence This Action For Kids programme trains young disabled people in domestic and other practical life skills such as cooking, handling money and using public transport. Training takes place in a fully fitted replica house.
Family Support Services Action For Kids provides family support to the parents and carers of disabled children by being a friendly but expert voice on the end of the telephone, offering practical advice and a sympathetic ear.
Community living As well as developing skills that are transferable to employment, volunteering or taking an active role in the community, our programmes give young people a growing sense of independence and confidence.
Get Involved - Raffle, Events Join our dedicated supporters who sell raffle tickets, run races, host Afternoon Teas and parachute out of planes to raise funds for our essential work. We simply couldn't do it without you.
Fundraising Action For Kids needs your support! Find out how you can help disabled children and young people across the UK by raising funds for our vital work, either on your own or with a group, club, association or school.
Independent Living and transition Disabled youngsters want the same things as all young people - peer friendships, to be treated as young adults, going out, control over their lives and looking forward to living as independent adults one day. Our students develop the skills and confidence required to make decisions- important steps towards independence.
Supporting disabled youngsters At Action For Kids we focus on young people's abilities, providing a positive and supportive environment where students can develop their self-esteem. As well as acquiring office skills, students become more confident and independent. They learn teamwork and make lasting friendships.
Participation of young disabled people Action For Kids not only works for young disabled people but much of what we do is done by the young people. Students write our blog and some of the stories in our newsletter. The Young People's Forum gives the kids a real say in the charity's activities.
